A New AP Class Begins to Set Foot!

There is a new college level history course that covers a variety of units. Advanced Placement African American studies focuses on the origins of African diaspora, freedom, enslavement and resistance, the practice of freedom, and movements and debates. From AP Central, it describes the course development timeline; originating in 2022 to 2023, there were 60 schools across the country who piloted the new class. Starting off next year, the original schools will expand to hundreds of additional schools. Furthermore, students who will take the new AP course will take the first AP African American Studies Exams in the spring of 2024. In the years following 2024, every school can begin to offer this class. Finally, in the Spring of 2025, all students can choose to take the AP African American Studies Exams. Over 300 professors who studied African American history gave the course crucial insightful information that helped the course overall.
