Up and Coming: Daniel Seavey

Up and Coming: Daniel Seavey

By: Kaylene Borg

If you were on YouTube during 2017, it is likely that you watched the videos of Jake Paul versus Logan Paul, and were aware of the band, Why Don’t We, who were able to get a boost of fame from those videos before creating a successful future for them as a band. This included the album, 8 Letters, which charted at number 9 on United States of America’s Billboard 200, The Good Times, and The Bad Ones which charted at number 3. The band had attempted to re-brand itself with the second album with a new logo, all members showing themselves playing instruments, and more. Unfortunately, The Good Times for Jonah Marais, Zach Herron, Daniel Seavey, Jack Avery, and Corbyn Besson came to an end on July 6, 2022, when they announced their hiatus. The band had been facing legal trouble in a lawsuit against their old management for abuse in a variety of ways. Still, the hiatus surprised fans as they were about to go on tour. It was explained that in a counter sue from their old management that they had been sent a cease, and desist order for their band name.

Although the band was coming to an end (for now), it did not mean the end of singing and touring for band member, Daniel Seavey. On September 30, 2022, he released the first official single of his solo career titled, “Can We Pretend That We’re Good”, and has since released, “Runaway”, on December 9, 2022, and eventually, “I Tried”, on January 13, 2023. After the first two songs (and one more original being released on YouTube), Seavey announced his first, but short, solo tour on December 9, 2022. The tour announcement was such a hit among fans that the original San Diego show venue sold out within a minute. Rolling Stone states that this new era for Seavey as a time to dig into “his impeccable production skills, stellar vocals, and personal artistry”, which will be explored more on his first solo album, soon to come. Through a biased opinion, I can say he is a very talented and impressive artist. If you were a fan of Why Don’t We in the past, or even if you have no clue who you’ve just read about, I would recommend checking out Daniel Seavey’s new music as he begins his solo career.
