What is Neuralink Developing?
By: Justin Egan
Going into 2023, some crazy, unexpected events have already been unfolding. Starting with Elon Musk's Neuralink, Musk has been testing the Neurolink on animals like monkeys and pigs. Monkeys were given a controller, and whenever they brought the pointer on a screen to a certain point, the monkeys were awarded with a banana paste. After implanting the Neuralink but disconnecting the controller, the monkey still used the disconnected controller and was still able to control the pointer on the screen to go to the designated area. Another test done on the monkey allowed scientists to send signals to the monkey's brain and actually influence where the monkey looked and the actions it took. The monkey was even able to type messages through its brain when thinking of words. Two Neuralinks were implanted when testing the pig; one in the leg, and one implanted in the brain. The Neuralink implanted in the pig's brain helped show researchers what the pig was thinking, and the Neuralink implanted in the pig's leg let researchers control the pig's movement. In a separate interview with Musk, he revealed how the Neuralink will be able to download and replay saved memories in the brain; ultimately, allowing all memories from a person to be downloaded and possibly, “Be put into another human body or possibly a robot”. Scientists also found that by using the Neuralink, there may be a way to cure permanent blindness within humans through the brain and possibly other disabilities. Following the testing, Musk decided to start human testing in July of 2023, and is even expected to be using a Neuralink for himself within the coming year at one of his events.
